A well silenced bike.

Rubber Mastic Tape is Magic

I recently discovered rubber mastic tape as a tool to silence noises on your mountain bike and it's incredible. I highly recommend it as both a hack and bodge.

Right now I'm using on my Shimano XT brake calipers to dampen sounds from the finned brake pads rattling, and on my Rockshox bolt-on fender on my Lyrik. Just a few small pieces of it where the fender touches the fork lowers, around where the brake pad fins are close to the caliper and now my bike is ghost silent.

The stuff I use is rated to 90 degrees C and is UV resistant and I've had no problems, under normal usage, but I did manage to melt them riding 'Lo Imposible peña prieta", which would stress any and all bike parts.

Mastic tape is great, buy it form your local hardware store and use it.
